Going and coming back again and again
Surrender to the sensation of moving between cities and towns, between spaces, between dazzling light and soft shadows, between the present and the past
I am intruding on there, quietly watching under my breath, silently excited
I am roaming around the waves of blinking and blinking
I'm captivated by what's happening in front of me
I cut away as if scooping out "ahai"
I flash back
I see you there in the unknown beyond
Suddenly disappearing in the waves of reality
"Awai" (Aida/Ma) means between things, between things and time. The space between things, the space between things in time, the space between people, color combinations, opportunities, and timing.
"Manima-ni"(Manima) means to let things happen as they happen, to leave things as they are, to leave things to chance. As things progress, with ~.
Kinkan Gallery is pleased to present Kaoru Kuwajima's photo exhibition "Awai no Manimani"
from August 6 to August 28. This exhibition is a reorganization of the solo exhibition "light,
shadow, turn, shadow, light" held in Kyoto and Osaka, which consisted of photographs taken
during the documentation of the "Kyoto Modern Ceramic 2019," with a new title. The title,
"Awai no Manimani," is composed of two words from an archaic language, "awai (ahahi)" and
"manima-ni." Kaoru Kuwajima studied photography in San Francisco, and after returning to
Japan, she has been working as a photographer based in the Kansai region. By seeing Japan
from the outside, she began to perceive Japan as something new, and the culture of "Japan"
changed into something unknown, and Japan became like a foreign country to her. The
Japanese language, written in a distant era, has become unreadable to us Japanese without
learning it. A small trip to Kyoto, where she had the opportunity to experience the old
Japanese culture, brought her a fresh and vivid experience. Please take this opportunity to
view Kaoru Kuwajima's first solo exhibition in Tokyo.
Kaoru Kuwajima's private edition photo book of the same title, produced in conjunction with the exhibition "Awaino Manimani". The book will be on sale at the exhibition venue and at the Kinkan Online Store during the exhibition.
